A bizarre news coming from the Islamic country – Iran, where 8 models have been arrested for posting photos without covering their hair on photo sharing social platform- Instagram. Exposing the hair is considered “unislamic” and “vulgar” in Iran.
The sting named “Operation Spider II” is said to have identified 170 people running Instagram pages – 59 photographers and makeup artists, 58 models, 51 fashion salon managers and designers, and two active institutions. The sting. which Iranian authorities said aims to defend “honour” for Muslims, protect Islamic and national identity and exclude “unhealthy” online content.
One of the beauties who were arrested was Elham Arab, who is known for her wedding dress portals, was arrested and interogated by the Iranian courts. She was charged with ‘promoting western promiscuity’ and forced to grovel in public.
Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, women have been prohibited from going out in public without their hair covered.
This is not the first time in Iran, where youth have been targeted with draconian Islamic laws, earlier, in May 2014, authorities arrested a group of young Iranian men and women for an online video of them dancing to Pharrell Williams’ song ‘Happy.’
Instagram is extremely popular in Iran especially since Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are blocked in the country. We feel for the people of Iran and hope that they get independence from the so called Islamic revolution and live in the normal world like rest of the people.
